Position Title: Librarian (History, Travel & Geography) DS-1410-9/11
                 Martin Luther King Memorial Library
                 D.C. Public Library
                 901 G Street, NW
                 Washington, DC 20001

Hours: 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and as scheduled within the weekday hours
        (40 hours/week), Saturdays as assigned

Qualifications: MLS is required. In addition, education and/or
experience which has provided knowledge in the area of history and/or
geography is desirable. Applicants must present a combination of
experience, education, skills, self-development and expertise which
demonstrates the capacity to perform the duties of the position.

Functions: Under the general dirction of a Supervisor Librarian, the
incumbent provides reference and advisory sevices to adult patrons;
guides readers in the use of card catalog, on-line catalog, automated
reference sources, reference and circulating book collections, indexes,
etc.; assists readers in locating and selecting library materials;
locates and selects appropriate materials to answer a wide range of
general reference questions. Compiles reading lists on subjects
assigned; prepares displays of books, etc., works with community groups
and/or schools to plan programs, library-oriented discussion groups,
etc. Assists in developing the book collection; reviews books and other
materials and recommends titles for consideration for branch use.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
