POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe
(REC) is an independent, not-for-profit organization of international
character devoted to the improvement of the environment in Central and
Eastern Europe (CEE). 15 CEE countries are beneficiary countries of the
REC. The REC mission is to assist in solving the environmental problems in
Central and Eastern Europe by encouraging cooperation among
non-governmental organizations, governments, businesses, and other
environmental stakeholders, by supporting the free exchange of information
and by promoting public participation in environmental decisionmaking. The
REC is now accepting applications for the position of
LIBRARIAN
The position is based in the Information Exchange Department of
REC. The REC=92s Library and Information Services program answers
your questions about the environment in Central and Eastern Europe,
and promotes networking among different environmental stakeholders.
The aim is to ensure public access to environmental information, and the
REC has extensive resources for this, including a specialized library,
computer databases, and access to global electronic networks.
Qualifications and Tasks
The successful candidate will maintain and further develop the REC=92s
Environmental Library. The Library collection covers basic environmental
topics for all the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, with over 4000
books, 3800 pamphlets, 200 periodicals, 200 videos and 300 reference guide
books. Micro ISIS is used as the automated library collection management
system. The Position is based at the REC=92s Headquarters in Szentendre,
Hungary.
The applicant should have the following qualifications:
- At least two years work experience as librarian;
- University degree in library and information sciences;
- Good written and spoken English language abilities, knowledge of
one regional language is a plus;
- Good personal computer skills, Internet experience is a plus;
- General knowledge of environmental issues;
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and be a team player;
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following main
tasks:
- Maintain and further develop the Library collection;
- Provide general library services to REC staff and visitors;
- Catalog new materials on the Micro ISIS library automation system
- Order new books and periodicals;
- Assist in training of REC Local Office staff and others in the
region to share REC capabilities in electronic and library services
