and improved technologies for small holder farmers in developing countries.
As part of its programme ILRI provides information services based on
automated library facilities. We seek to implement a radically new strategy
for Internet-based information services and knowledge products that will
meet the information needs of ILRI scientists; re-package ILRI's research
results; and deliver the best possible global information service on animal
agriculture.

Position: To provide leadership to ILRI's new information services. In
addition to implementing the new strategy, the person recruited will
prepare budgets and reports, supervise staff, maintain close links with
users and other information providers, prepare and report on grant
documents, and represent ILRI as required. He/she will help ensure a
coherent and well planned set of activities.

Location: ILRI - Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

information retrieval systems, database management, and knowledge-based
applications essential. A good understanding of traditional library and
documentation activities will also be expected. Practical experience of
communication technologies essential. Experience of designing and managing
relational and textual databases highly desirable.

Experience of hands-on management of staff, and effective interpersonal
skills in a culturally diverse institutional environment; commitment to
team building; and excellent oral and written English skills are all
essential.

Qualifications: A masters degree in Information Sciences or related field,
PhD degree preferred. At least 10 years professional experience expected,
with 3 - 5 years in management positions.

Conditions of appointment: Three year contract initially, which may be
renewed. Internationally competitive terms of service. Salary paid in US
dollars. Relocation, housing, annual leave, travel and education
allowances are provided in addition to generous pension and insurance
benefits.
