Recently in the Wall Street Journal, what us finance guys also read; an
article appeared regarding photon transfers. Apparently, someone just
proved that photons disintegrate at one location and appear at another
the same exact way. Polarization of the photons allows them to assemble
exactly as they existed at another location after you dissolve them at
another location.
Need I say more about matter transfer from location to location and the
recent proof of such? Tremendous benefits to mankind happen when this
becomes perfected (savings in transportation to cryogenics). "Beam me
up, Scotty" looks closer and only around the corner now.
What novel in SF literature discusses this issue of teleportation?
Anyone care to take a stab at a list of books in this genre? Here below
I penciled in a few works that discuss matter transmission and stand as
the most notable (with many more not included):
Transmat by Lan Wright (1960)
Three Trips by Silverberg (1973)
Wild Talents by Charles Fort(1932)
Ringworld by Niven (1970)
The Man without a Body by Mitchell (1877)
Professor Vehr .... by Milne (1885)
The Fly (movie) by Langelaan (1957)
Venus in Five Seconds by Jane (1897)
Moon of Metal by Serviss (1900)
Radio Man by Farley (1924)
Mindbridge by Haldeman (1976)
Unteleported Man by Dick (1964)
Hyperion Series By Simmons (1989 to 1996)
Echo around his Bones By Disch (1967)
All Star Trek stories contain samples of this instant re-assemblage of
the soup. Our timetable moved up on this development recently and
rapidly. Time to get better acquainted with Teleportation. Who knows in
ten years time, we might figure out a way to transmit to a distant star
without a spaceship? Then again, those nay sayers might pass this
discovery off as no event at all .... without much thought or belief
that any benefit derives until another one thousand year from now.
Einstein thought this impossible, and yet, it just happened in a
laboratory. Best discovery in decades .... in my humble opinion.
