Oddly, Dennis, of all the films you mentioned in your response to my post,
the
only one I haven't seen at least part of is "The Masks" episode of TWILIGHT
ZONE...or at least I don't remember it, so can't rightly say about how
closely
it and ONIBABA resemble each other...here's a question--anyone else remember
an Argentine or other Sudamerican film set in and around a hospital, with a
decided surrealist feel and made within the last fifteen years? I don't
think
it was Spanish or Mexican, and had sfnal and surreal elements (and lots of
intercom calls echoing through huge empty corridors)...not too much to go on,
but if anyone thinks they have seen it and can remember the title...and the
more I think about it, the more possible Spanish seems...

Are you by any chance thinking of MAN FACING SOUTHEAST (Hombre Mirando al
Sudeste), written and directed by the Argentinian director Eliseo Subiela? It
takes place in a psychiatric hospital whera a man named Rantes suddenly
appears, claiming to be an alien visitor. Visited by only one person,
Beatriz, and looked upon as a savior by his fellow patients, his claims are
denied by the doctor who is treating him. I found this little gem in a video
store called Saturday Matinee on a shelf with other inexpensive titles. It's
probably the best $4.95 I've ever spant on a tape.
It was made in 1987 and distributed by New World Videos.
