Mars Hill College invites applications for the Director of Library
Services of Renfro Library, a new facility. In this challenging
position within a changing institutional environment, the Director
will be expected to play a lead role in redefining the vision of the
college in the next millennium, which includes the development of
partnerships and consortia with area institutions and organizations.
A staff of ten, which includes four professionals, maintains a
collection of over 90,000 volumes, additional periodicals and on-line
resources for a campus of 1000 students.
The Director's responsibilities include: the management and
operation of the library, the leadership of a service-oriented staff,
fiscal administration including maximum utilization of resources, the
identification and administration of information technology grants,
enhancing existing technological access, providing input to the
college computer center regarding campus network capabilities, and
serving as a liason to the college community and local organizations.
Proven experience in academic library planning, financial and
personnel management, public and external relations, development
activities, and knowledge of library automation and electronic
resources are required. A well qualified candidate must also possess
excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Applicants must have a Master's Degree in Library or Information
Science from an ALA-accredited institution, and have held
progressively responible professional positions in an academic
library setting, including administrative library experience. An
additional Master's Degree outside the library discipline is
preferred. Familiarity with the philosophy of a small liberal arts
education and the ability to work in a small, cooperative environment
is essential. The Director of Library Services reports to the Vice
President of Academic Affairs.
