North Carolina State University Libraries
Textiles and Engineering Services Librarian
The North Carolina State University Libraries invites applications and
nominations for the position of Textiles and Engineering Services Librarian.
This position offers the opportunity to join a dynamic organization in
exploring and re-envisioning information and research services for textiles
and engineering science in a technology-rich environment. The position is
based in the Textiles Library, located on NC State's Centennial Campus, a
1000-acre academic village located next to the main campus, where university,
corporate, and government partners conduct research and development in a
collaborative atmosphere. The incumbent will be a member of the Libraries'
Research and Information Services Department, delivering user-centered
information services with a strong emphasis on the application of new
technologies and providing support for more than one hundred bibliographic and
Plans, develops, and delivers responsive and innovative information services
that support scientific research and discovery for the College of Textiles and
for engineering faculty and students located on the Centennial Campus.
Designs and conducts classes and seminars in research methods. Produces
instructional materials and service guides in formats appropriate to a
decentralized clientele. Serves as the Libraries' liaison for engineering
programs located on the Centennial Campus. Serves on library-wide committees
and task forces. Is active professionally and contributes to developments in
user services and trends in storage, retrieval, and delivery of information
resources. Reports to the Assistant Head, Research and Information Services:
Engineering and Science.
Required: ALA-accredited MLS. Academic preparation in the physical or
engineering sciences, or experience in delivering information and research
services in engineering , science, or textiles. Knowledge of relevant
resources and contemporary research issues. Skill in question negotiation and
instructional techniques; enthusiasm for solving clients' research problems.
Awareness of emerging technologies as they contribute to meeting the needs of
researchers. Ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably,
orally and in writing, with clients and colleagues. Ability to work
independently and in a team environment. Preferred: Experience in delivering
information and research services to engineers. Ability to plan, design and
implement new procedures, projects, or services.

design, natural resources, textiles, and veterinary medicine, and maintains an
affiliation with a separately administered learning resources library and
African-American Cultural Center reading room. With a staff of 300 FTE, the
Libraries has over 2.6 million volumes in its collection, acquires more than
26,000 current serials, and has a total annual budget in excess of $18
million, with over $7 million allocated to collections.
The NCSU Libraries is a founding member of SOLINET and a member of the
Association of Research Libraries and the Center for Research Libraries. Duke
University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Central University and NC State form the Triangle Research Libraries Network,
with combined resources approaching 12 million volumes, and collections
budgets totaling more than $22 million.

Salary and Benefits
The Libraries offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, not
less than $29,100 for this position. Librarians have academic status without
tenure or rank. Benefits include: 26 days vacation, 12 days sick leave;
health insurance (comprehensive major medical or HMO); and state, TIAA/CREF or
other retirement options. Additional and optional dental, life, disability,
deferred compensation, and legal plans are available. Tuition waiver program
for all campuses of The University of North Carolina is available.
