Hi!
After knowing that many of you have read that novel (thanks
Steven, Adam, RonJonHol and Tim), I'd rather take this "conversation"
within this list.
Some thoughs about Diamond Age...
I found that the "setup" was quite well done -I prefer SnowCrash
setup though- and that many of the characters were very well described and
done too. The nanotech stuff was also "cool", but somehow I get the
feeling that it's virtually impossible to do that. It was a good book in
the overall.
However, don't you think that the end is too much of a
coincidence? I mean, it's all too perfectly finished to make it seem what
could be a real situation. And too, I feel that it ends up too quick... I
thought that we were going to see much more of Nell's life out of the
vicky society.
Also, I feel I've seen the "drummer sect" (don't know how it's
exactly put in the book, as I've read it in Spanish) somewhere else
before. I think it was in The Fall of Hyperion where the computers where
using the human brain as their processing power. Not that I have anything
against Stephenson's setup, but it's not completely original.
My personal opinion is that "The Diamond Age" was a good book, but
not for winning all the prizes that it got. I liked Snow Crash more.
