THE JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY
The Milton S. Eisenhower Library seeks an outgoing and enthusiastic
librarian to deliver the full range of reference, instructional and
collection development services to the Hopkins community. Resource
Services Librarians are subject specialists responsible for building
strong, client-centered relationships with faculty and students in the
assigned disciplines.
The Eisenhower Library has just completed a major renovation of its
central facility, is implementing an aggressive digital library program,
and has embarked on library-wide leadership development and diversity
initiatives.
The Eisenhower Library values initiative, creativity, professionalism and
teamwork.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and deliver a range of traditional and
innovative library services that facilitate the work of faculty and
students in anthropology, political science and sociology. Includes
cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with faculty and
students, selecting traditional and electronic resources for the
collection, providing subject-related reference and instructional
services, communicating effectively to facilitate awareness of resource s
and services, and developing Web-based resources. A high level of
interaction between faculty and students and the librarian is essential.
Serves as a member of the Resource Services Department which includes
providing reference via the research consultation model and participating
in departmental activities; works with library groups in the Eisenhower
Library and across the Hopkins system to coordinate services, initiates
projects and implements programs. Willingness to work a flexible schedule,
including evenings and week-ends.
QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: MLS from an ALA accredited library school.
Advanced degree in one of the subject fields or extensive experience
serving a similar user population. HIGHLY DESIRED: Two-three years of
collection development and/or reference experience in an academic library.
Demonstrated ability to conduct seminars and instructional programs.
Experience working with information and networked technologies, including
designing and creating web sites and pages. Ability to work well with
colleagues and a demanding user group. Reading knowledge of two foreign
languages. The ability to work flexibly and creatively in a changing
environment.
