Position: Electronic Reference Services Librarian, Univ. of New Orleans
Duties: Provides leadership in the planning, selection, integrating,
evaluating, maintaining, and promotion of electronic resources in the
Reference Services Department. Identifies and promotes the use of
appropriate electronic resources including journals, databases, CD-ROM
products and Internet-based materials. Works with a team of Reference
Services Department faculty members to provide general reference
assistance, including government documents, from a central reference
desk to students, faculty, and other library users, employing
traditional and electronic reference tools. Participates in library
instruction activities, and plans and coordinates training for library
users in the use of electronic products: CD-ROM, online databases, the
Internet. Participates in collection development activities by serving
as an advisor/consultant to subject specialist librarians for
collections and services providing information in electronic format.
May serve as a bibliographer for one or more collection area.
Participates with others in planning and implementation of electronic
access to information including recommendation of
library/department policies. Reports to the Chair of the Reference
Services Department and works closely with the Library Automation unit.
Some evening and weekend duty required.
Qualifications: Required: ALA Accredited MLS; experience with electronic
information sources and services including CD-ROM products, online
services, and web-based products; knowledge of HTML and experience in
the development of World Wide Web resources; demonstrated ability to
work with technical aspects of computer software and hardware; ability
to troubleshoot problems on local workstations; ability to teach/train
new technologies; ability to communicate effectively orally and in
writing in English; self-directed learning style and willingness to
learn new technologies; knowledge of or experience in reference work;
ability to work productively with diverse groups in an urban academic
setting. Preferred: experience or familiarity with negotiating library
licenses associated with electronic technologies; experience with a
Novell and/or NT networked environment; and experience in an academic
setting.
Salary & Rank:$29,333 - $32,500 at the Assistant or Associate Librarian
rank, depending on qualifications and experience. Librarians at the
University of New Orleans are tenurable academic appointees enjoying
full faculty status and responsibilities, including teaching, research,
and service.
