POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT -- INSTRUCTION/REFERENCE LIBRARIAN
The State University of West Georgia invites applications for the position
of Instruction/Reference Librarian.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate for this position will:
participate in an active library instruction program, including teaching
bibliographic instruction classes and a credit course in library research;
develop instructional materials, print and web based; identify, plan, and
assist in staff training using electronic resources; work with librarians
in developing and designing web pages; monitor library web pages for
consistency and appropriateness; provide reference assistance at a
central reference desk daily, evenings, and some weekends; serve as
liaison with assigned departments; and perform other duties as assigned.
This position reports to the Head of Instructional Services.
Required Qualifications: M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited program; at least
two years professional experience in an academic library in reference and
instruction; demonstrated effectiveness in library instruction,
including teaching a library credit course; experience and expertise in
web site development/management and HTML; outstanding communication and
interpersonal skills; proven ability to work independently and as part of
a team; demonstrated strong public service commitment.
Preferred Qualifications: Second masters degree will be required for
tenure and for appointment at the level of Assistant Professor;
demonstrated interest in applying current and emerging technologies to
meet the changing needs of library users with the goal of encouraging user
self- sufficiency; ability to plan and implement in a constantly changing
