I am participating in a session about EAD at the Midwest Archives
Conference next month. The focus of my remarks will be on 1) how
archivists' negative perceptions/attitudes about EAD pose obstacles to
implementation; and 2) what formal research or informal project results
might change those perceptions and, consequently, alter adoption rates of
EAD.
What I am seeking from those of you actively engaged in EAD projects is
information about the kinds of evaluations you have or are already
undertaking. These might be in the areas of costs of production and
distribution, technical requirements, review of software strengths and
weaknesses, end-user acceptance, or anything else.
Please note, I'm not asking for your results, although I'd be happy to have
them, merely what elements of your project you are evaluating and how. Some
of this has been posted here and I've been greedily taking note. I have
also looked at the Web sites for most (I hope) of the more visible
projects. Many of these have published their project proposals or goals,
some of which indicate the kinds of evaluation the projects hope to
undertake. This has been helpful, but I would like more, if possible. I do
realize that, for many of these projects, it is simply too early for formal
results to be available.
If anyone would prefer to send replies to me privately, I will summarize
for the list if this topic is felt to be of more general interest.
Thanks in advance for whatever help you can provide.
