Subject: Automated Systems Workshop

Automated Systems: Migrating to the Next Generation

The world of automation is not a static one! There comes a time with
all automated systems when an upgrade is necessary. If you are
planning to migrate to a new automated system, or are even thinking
about the possibility, this full-day workshop is designed for you.
Topics will include
    -Evaluating your current technology
   - Examining the state of the art
    -Choosing to migrate to a new vendor or stay with your current vendor
     -Evaluating vendor systems similarities and differences
     -Procuring and contracting for a new system
     -Planning for data migration
     -Planning for telecommunications
     -Training staff and patrons
     -Addressing workflow considerations
     - Supporting graphical interfaces and hybrid information sources

Prerequisites: None

Instructor:Susan Baerg Epstein, Susan Baerg Epstein, Ltd.
Ms. Epstein, a regular columnist in Library Journal and Library
Hi-Tech, has been providing consulting services in library automation
and long range technology planning to public and academic libraries
throughout the United States since 1981. She has participated in
statewide automation planning programs in Connecticut, Wisconsin,
Hawaii, California, Maine, and New Hampshire.
