FACTS ABOUT THE COMMUNITY, UNIVERSITY & LIBRARY:
Lake Charles is located in southwest Louisiana, midway between New Orleans and
Houston, and approximately 35 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. With a population
of about 71,000, Lake Charles is large enough to offer a variety of cultural,
sporting, and recreation events. In addition to museums, theaters, ballet, and
symphony, Lake Charles offers wildlife trails, fishing, boating, riverboat
casinos, and ice hockey.
McNeese State University has an enrollment of approximately 8,000 students and
is oriented both to liberal arts and professional programs. McNeese offers a
wide range of four-year undergraduate degrees. The slogan "Excellence With A
A Personal Touch" reflects two of the university's qualities: Academic
Excellence and Personal Attention.
Frazar Memorial Library was constructed in 1961. A four-story addition was
added in 1974. Renovated in 1986, the library provides book stack space for
over 400,000 volumes as well as study rooms, library offices, and service
areas. The collections and services are designed to complement the educational
and research programs of the university. The library is a member of the
Louisiana Library Network, a statewide consortium of libraries utilizing NOTIS
software to provide access to OPACs, indexes, and databases.
