Reference Librarian
Time Limited, One-year appointment

North Carolina State University Libraries invites applications and nominations
for the position of Reference Librarian.  This is a full time, 9-month
position for Fall and Spring semesters (August - May).  Hours will normally be
12 midnight to 9:00 a.m.  The incumbent will be a member of the Libraries'
Research and Information Services Department, delivering user centered
information services with a strong emphasis on the application of new
technologies and providing support for more than one hundred bibliographic and
full-text databases.

Responsibilities
Provides information and research services to students, faculty, and other
users of the D.H. Hill Library via e-mail and individual consultation with
clients. Collects and analyzes use statistics for service area. Develops and
coordinates efforts to inform the university community of twenty-four hour
reference service. Other duties or projects as assigned. Reports to the Head
of the Research and Information Services Department.

Qualifications
Required: MLS degree from an ALA-accredited library program.  Experience
providing reference services in an academic or research library. Experience
with government publications. Skill in question negotiation and instructional
techniques. Ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably,
orally and in writing, with clients and colleagues.  Demonstrated ability to
set priorities, work effectively with others and independently, and exercise
sound judgement.  Preferred:  Prior experience in delivering information and
research services after traditional business hours.

million, with over $7 million allocated to collections.

The NCSU Libraries is a founding member of SOLINET and a member of the
Association of Research Libraries and the Center for Research Libraries.  Duke
University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Central University and NC State form the Triangle Research Libraries Network,
with combined resources approaching 12 million volumes, and collections
budgets totaling more than $22 million.

Salary and Benefits
Salary: $25,000- $26,800 for nine months commensurate with experience.
Librarians have academic status without tenure or rank.  Benefits include:
health insurance (comprehensive major medical or HMO); and state, TIAA/CREF or
other retirement options.  Additional and optional dental, life, disability,
deferred compensation, and legal plans are available.  Tuition waiver program
for all campuses of The University of North Carolina is available.
