Subject:        Update on the OCLC Access Suite


I am pleased to announce that the Access Suite task force consisting of
OCLC staff and Regional Network representatives has completed its work.
As a result of task force discussions, much analysis here at OCLC, and
input from the Users Council Communications and Access Interest Group,
the cost of the Access Suite will be bundled into the monthly access
charges for each member starting in Fiscal Year 1998/99.  In effect, all
members who access OCLC systems will be entitled to a site license for
the software (including Passport, Cat ME for Windows, ILL ME for
Windows, CJK, and the Label program) at no additional cost.

We will provide copies of the Access Suite CD to all Users Council
delegates during the general meeting.

OCLC is in the process of preparing to distribute the Suite to all
users.  Members may download the Suite from the OCLC Access Suite web
page at http://www.oclc.org/oclc/menu/suite.htm as of July 1, 1998, or
they may request hard copies of the Suite package.

The Users Council Communications and Access IG will have an opportunity
to discuss OCLC plans in more detail at the upcoming Users Council
meeting.  Please feel free to let members of that group know if you have
any questions or concerns.
