BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Incumbents will, on a rotational basis, be assigned to the
Production Team,
Reader Service facility in the Congressional Reference Division,
or to the
Product Distribution Center in the Library Services Division.
Incumbents will
identify and locate specifically cited publications and articles
from federal
documents, congressional publications, newspapers, periodicals, or
other
Library or CRS collections; respond to congressional requests,
provide in-person assistance to congressional and CRS staff;
respond to requests for CRS
products; process books, periodicals, annuals, microforms,
CD-ROMs, and other recurring publications; advise staff on the
procedures necessary to obtain Library materials from the book
room; maintain the book room according to established procedures;
enter into various automated database systems complete
descriptions of the contents of new and revised Info Packs;
maintain inventories and supplies; use automated tracking system
to input, search, and manipulate data; greet and direct visitors,
answer telephone and take messages; distribute mail; provide daily
maintenance on a variety of
electronic equipment including photocopiers, microfiche
reader-printers, and
fax machines; and perform routine clerical duties. In addition to
the duties
listed above, incumbents at the GS-6 level will train and review
work of
junior staff as requested; keep statistics for all forms of CRS
products; and
respond to requests for publications where requests contain vague,
incomplete or misleading information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At the GS-5 level applicants must have at least 6 months of
related
specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-4 level in the
Federal service or
at a comparable level of difficulty outside the Federal service,
performing
duties such as general clerical, library or other related
experience which
demonstrates experience in identifying and locating library
materials; or have
successfully completed at least 4 years (120 semester hours/180
quarter hours) of undergraduate education, in an accredited
college or university, in any field of study; or have an
equivalent combination of related experience and
education when combined is equivalent to 6 months of related
experience at the GS-4 level. At the GS-6 level applicants must
have at least 6 months of
related specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-5 in the
Federal service
or at a comparable level of difficulty outside the Federal
service, performing
duties such as identifying and locating library materials;
inputting data into
an automated system; and searching/manipulating data.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbents may perform some physical exertion such as long
periods of
standing, or recurring activities such as bending, crouching,
stooping, and
reaching; pushing loaded book trucks; or recurring lifting of
moderately heavy
items such as boxes of assembly materials or multiple copies of
CRS products.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): The following KSAs have
been identified as being important to the performance of these
positions at the GS-5/6 grade levels. The percentages in
parenthesis indicate the relative
importance of each KSA to these positions.

EVALUATION PROCESS:
Applicants are first assessed against minimum qualification
requirements for
these positions and must have the level of experience as specified
in this
announcement. Furthermore, applicants will be assigned a
numerical score
between 70 and 100 that will be based on their responses to the
questions
answered in the Supplemental Qualifications Statement, Form C.
This rating
process will determine who will be referred to the selecting
official for
further consideration.
