The most significant case of this that I know of occurs in _Footfall_
where two teams of SF writers are assembled to assist the government
in determining what to do when the aliens arrive. One is the team to
use if they are friendly (I don't recall that team's name) and the
other is the Threat Team. Both teams are made up of real writers
given similar names. Part of the game was to figure out who was who.
Two members of the Threat Team were named Robert Anton and his wife
for example (Robert A. Heinlein and his wife, whose name also escapes
me).

Subject: Re: The Flying Sorcerors (Whose that Author?)
THE FLYING SORCERORS used a science fiction author as its protagonist,
sort
of. The hero's name is Asimov, which the Universal Translator renders
as
"As a Purplish Color (i.e. Mauve)" so he is dubbed "Purple" throughout
the
story. Now Bloch and Lovecraft used each other as heroes in certain
short
stories. Ben Bova used Harlan Ellison as a character in THE
STARCROSSED
(and Asimov used him as a character in MURDER AT THE ABA). Larry Niven
and
Jerry Pournelle have frequently put their friends in their novels,
especially LUCIFER'S HAMMER. Phil Dick put himself into one of his
novels
as Horselover Fat (translation of his name in Spanish and German).
Phil
Farmer fictionalized Forry Ackerman in BLOWN. What other cases can
people
name of SF authors appearing as characters in stories?
