Digital scanners output metadata (scanner model, date, scanner settings,
etc.) according to a standard called TWAIN. The metadata is placed in a
".txt" file with the same filename that is assigned to the digitized
image file, I believe.

Is the TWAIN metadata already encoded as SGML? The display of this data
that I have seen does not look like SGML, but it is labeled and listed
in a predictable format.

Is anyone using software that captures or automatically routes this
metadata into EAD coding? Or into a cataloging format (USMARC?) or a
database?

We plan to do a great deal of scanning soon and are looking for
relatively simple ways to capture the metadata for each scan.

Thanks for your ideas,
Linda
