Index term: NISO committee seeks public comment on digital
talking book features list
The Digital Talking Book Standards Committee of the National
Information Standards Organization (NISO) is seeking public
comment on the enclosed draft document, Digital Talking Book
Features List, which describes the features envisioned for
the next generation of recorded books for blind and
physically handicapped readers. Comments will be accepted
through September 15, 1998, and should be directed to the
NLS research and development officer.
The document is available on request from NLS (see contact
information below) in braille, cassette, and large-print
versions and can also be found on the NISO web site at:
www.niso.org/talkbookdraft.html
NLS will notify patrons of the availability of the NISO
Digital Talking Book Features List in the July/August issues
of Talking Book Topics and Braille Book Review. Information
about the document has been posted on numerous listservs and
copies will be distributed at several upcoming consumer
meetings.
Comments are welcome and will be appreciated. However, due
to the large number of submissions expected, it will not be
possible to reply.
