I think you show excellent taste. Those are two of the best writers
currently working.
Regarding "SF as man's domain," as a long-time SF fan, believe me, none of
the SF fans I knew wanted it that way, and there have been women writing
and playing in the field for quite some time, but for many years, women SF
fans were relatively few and far between. (But then, Analog/engineer
stories tended to dominate American SF, and the SF television shows were
just catching on). While the average SF reader is still white and male, the
genre as garnered a great many women and minorities who have relatively
little difficulty in getting accomodated and may, perhaps, come to
dominate. (Is it my imagination, or do more women read and write fantasy
than men?)
If anyone is interesting in a reading discussion group, I am planning on
reading Virginia Hamilton's ghost story HOUSE OF DIES DREAR in the next
month and would welcome comments from anyone else who is interested in
reading this offbeat take on the underground railroad.
