Judy,
Tips for teaching how to search American Memory. Well, every collection is
different, so I would recommend that teachers become very familiar with the
collection they plan to use. Many do not have a search engine and are
difficult for students. Teachers need to be aware of these difficulties and
anticipate them. I would also recommend teaching a brief overview to the
students before launching into it and having a few parent volunteers in the
classroom to assist in the many questions. Webwhacking is something Agnes and
I did to accommodate our lack of on-line computers and controlling student
access to the Internet. However the kids did run into dead-ends more
frequently. Lastly, I would recommend they take advantage of the Learning
Page.
