Course Description:
Discover resources and learn about research techniques for finding
quality legal information on the Internet. Legal documents and
commentary abound via this relatively new medium. This full-day,
hands-on workshop examines law-related sources and outlines strategies
for locating and identifying authentic legal information. In this
workshop you will
-Explore key resources offering primary law documents and legal commentary
-Ascertain the characteristics of quality in legal information and resources
-Learn about methods for initiating legal research on the Internet
-Discover research strategies for finding various types of legal information
-Apply techniques learned throughout the day with various hands-on exercises
Prerequisites:
Familiarity with basic World Wide Web navigation. A basic
understanding of legal documents, such as case law, statutes,
regulations, etc. is helpful, but not essential.
Instructor:
Genie Tyburski, Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll
Ms. Tyburski, is currently the Research Librarian for the Philadelphia
law firm, Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll. She authors the monthly
column, "ResearchWire", for Law Library Resource Xchange and maintains
The Virtual Chase, a research site for legal professionals. Ms.
Tyburski designed The Compleat Internet Researcher: Advanced
Strategies and Techniques web site and authored the Research
Strategies Section for the July 1997 American Association of Law
Libraries (AALL) pre-conference workshop by the same title.
