Just finished A.C. Clarke's 2001, reading it at virtually one gulp. Question: the copy
that I have sez that it was "Based on a screenplay by Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C.
Clarke." I had always been under the impression that 2001: ASO was a full-fledged novel
that then became a screenplay, rather than the other way around.
I certainly don't mean to say this disappointments me and it certainly didn't dampen the
chill running down my spine when HAL says "Too bad about Frank, isn't it?" I just
wondered if anyone could enlighten me here.
