Instances (EAD, HTML, and, yes, ASCII) in the UCSD Finding Aid database
are generated from a database application we designed using FoxPro 2.6
for Windows.
All descriptive work is entered into the database application (a
relational database comprised of 13 related tables) and stored there for
in house administrative and public service needs. When description of a
collection is completed a printed finding aid is created for in house
use. Then three digital versions of the finding aid are created and
uploaded to the UCSD finding aids database. The EAD version is also
uploaded to the Online Archive of California, formerly the UCSD-EAD
database.
At this time we are engaged with converting the application to Visual
FoxPro. When that process is completed, we will then upgrade the EAD
report forms to 1.0.
