available to establish five additional Youth Opportunity pilot sites
in areas limited to urban and rural EC/EZ's as designated by HUD or
USDA. The Opportunity Areas in targeted communities are to expand
employment, education and training opportunities, mentoring, support,
leadership, development and other services as needed for all youth in
the targeted area. The focus is for youth age 16 to 24 to gain
long-term employment at wage levels that will prevent future
dependency.
The W.K. Kellogg Foundation Food Systems/Rural Development program area
has announced the Round 2 Managing Information with Rural America (MIRA)
Request for Proposals. The purpose of the MIRA is to assist U.S. rural
communities use technology to meet current and future challenges. Two
of the three roles are open at this time: Clusters of Community Teams
(maximum is $200,000; due date is December 31, 1998) and Community
Support Organizations ($250,000; due April 15, 1999) . Information is
