the gif notation comes from the eadnotat.ent file. I'm not usre if the
lgc file builds that in or you have to copy it into an appropriate
referenced directory.
In any event, you shouldn't have to alter the EAD file to accomodate
notations since that functionality is built into the set of files that
comprise the DTD.
XMetal will come from Softquad, which still exists as a separate
company, not from Interleaf and not the company that Softquad used to
be but changed its name. Employees bought out the Softquad name.
