So I'm writing something to edit USMARC records (and some other
stuff). I have some sample records here. The question is, what do
the concise formats mean when they talk about a blank ('#')?
Being naive, I figured they meant ASCII 35, the octothorpe. Hoever,
the records I have appear to use a space (ASCII 32) in places where a
blank would be appropriate. In fact, I can't find a single octothorpe
in the sample records I have here.
Therefore, is the '#' simply used as a printable character for the
space?
