Duties: Responses to library user needs on NOAA-related subjects
using the collection and online resources at the NOAA Seattle
Regional Library. Collects, verifies, compiles, and summarizes
data and information. Processes routine actions in documentation
and library technical processing. Aids high level specialist in
complex activities.
Qualifications: A full 4-year course of study that meets all
requirements for a bachelor's degree with major study in the
field of environmental or related sciences; OR four years of
experience that provided a knowledge of the basic principles,
theories, practices, techniques, and terminology of environmental
or related sciences; and an understanding of the standard
methods, procedures, and techniques of research and analysis of
environmental sciences or related sciences. Such experience must
have been gained through a 4-year curriculum; OR a combination of
education and experience as described above. In addition to the
above applicants must have one year of specialized experience
equivalent to the next lower level. Specialized experience must
have demonstrated the ability to perform one or more of the
functional areas of work covered by this series; to understand
the concepts, theories, new developments, and co-relationship of
information in library technical support activities; and to
maintain up-to-date information on the state of the art.
Appropriate graduate level education may be substituted for
specialized experience. Time-in-grade/band must be met by the
closing date. Transcripts must be provided to verify education.
Quality Ranking Factors (* = critical): Applicants are strongly
encouraged to include a supplemental sheet describing how their
experience and education relates to each quality ranking factor.
(1) *Ability to coordinate a large variety of library duties
such as reference, interlibrary loan, serials control, and
technical processing;(2) *Skill in operating a computer and/of
word processing as evidenced by using a variety of software
packages; (3) Knowledge of oceanographic and atmospheric
sciences as evidenced by providing requested information; (4)
Knowledge of system administration of an integrated library
system; and (5) Ability to communicate effectively, both in
person and in writing as evidenced by preparing briefings and
presentations.
