Marcia,
For things like the company that will be selling libraries access to a
digital copy of a book - book is stored at their site, only one patron
from a site can access it at a time and printing off is drastically
limited -- this service is being marketed as the new way to acquire
books -- who catalogs these and how do they integrate with our OPACs for
finding and accessing them. This pattern is sort of backwards to the
way that OCLC has been working: one copy of the record downloaded into
lots of OPACs -- here the book exists in only one place, there's a
question as to where the cataloging exists, and lots of sites access the
same book at the same time using their book budgets and counting this as
"collection growth"?
Sounds like an interesting meeting.
See you next week. Hope you're having a good time.
