>I would like to ask your advice concerning the description of folders of
>photographs and drawings.
Our customers don't like multiple records for a single physical item.
We would do a partial contents note (505 2) in the record for the
folder listing the significant photographs and drawings. (First
indicator 2 means partial contents.) If the system to which we were
supplying records could index a coded 505, we would use 505 20 $tTitle
$rResponsibility $gOther information. If not, we would add 7XX$a$t and
740s as required.
We assume there is some organization to the folders, so that 650s would
apply to more than one photograph or drawing. But 600s and 610s might
apply to a single photograph or drawing; in that case you can put the
material specified in subfield $3.
You should find this less work than multiple linked records.
If you feel you *must* have a separate record for a particular
photograph or drawing, then information about the folder could be
entered in field 773 Host item entry. See AACR2 13.5.
