It wasn't Asimov who turned "Nightfall" into a novel, but rather
Bob Silverberg.
As for the general difficulty of turning shorts into novels, the
one man who was best at truly expanding a story into a novel
was Barry Malzberg, who turned the brilliant "A Galaxy Called Rome"
into the equally brilliant GALAXIES, and at a slightly lower
level, turned "Closed Sicilian" into TACTICS OF CONQUEST.
