PCC-SCA Survey Questions
Tool 1: OCLC's NACO macro -- "OCLC-supplied macrobook that creates completed
authority workform from bibliographic heading"
1.1 Are you currently using or planning to use the OCLC Passport for Windows
NACO macro?
No
1.2 If no, please tell us why not. Not aware of it? No need? Problems?
Other?
We have a special account with RLIN to do NACO.
1.3 If yes, please comment. Accolades? Problems? Suggestions?
Enhancements?
Tool 2: OCLC's real time upload of bibliographic records -- "CatME for
Windows version 1.10 now supports importing original records you created in
your local system. This allows you to add to WorldCat, the OCLC Online Union
Catalog, original records that you created in your local system."
2.1 Are you currently using or planning to use OCLC's real time upload
capability?
No
2.2 If no, please tell us why not. Not aware of it? No need? Problems?
Other?
Don't have proper connection. I am not authorized to use OCLC for this,
just RLIN. Also, since I am part of the Hebrew funnel, my main cataloging is
on RLIN.
2.3 If yes, please comment. Accolades? Problems? Suggestions?
Enhancements?
Tool 3: RLG's Authority Record Assistant for NACO contributors -"Authority
Assistant allows NACO catalogers using RLG's RLIN library processing system
to select a heading in a bibliographic record and give the Generate command
to produce an authority record in the RLG Name Authority File, a copy of the
Anglo-American Name Authority File. There they can review the record and
indicate when it is ready for
redistribution by the Library of Congress."
3.1 Are you currently using or planning to use the RLG Authority Assistant?
Yes
3.2 If no, please tell us why not. Not aware of it? No need? Problems?
Other?
3.3 If yes, please comment. Accolades? Problems? Suggestions?
Enhancements?
It is a great time saver. I don't like the addition of the entire 245 $c
field, but with multiple languages I doubt that it is possible to program
the computer for the names only. We would like to see some vernacular
references in the authority files.
