Dear EADers:
Can anybody help out with a technical glitch I'm experiencing when
attempting to display an EAD XML document using Internet Explorer 5?
According to the EAD Guidelines, to invoke XML it's necessary to change that
section of the "ead.dtd" file entitled "SGML EADNOTAT AND EADCHARS
INCLUSION/EXCLUSION" from 'INCLUDE' to 'IGNORE". Having done this, I'm
still getting an error related to NOTATION. IE5 seems to be telling my that
it cannot find the GIF NOTATION.
My declarations within the document instance appear as follows:
<?xml version="1.0" standalone="no"?>
<?xml:stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="teststyle.xsl"?>
<!DOCTYPE ead PUBLIC "-//Society of American Archivists//DTD ead.dtd
(Encoded
Archival Description (EAD) Version 1.0//EN" "ead.dtd"
[
<!ENTITY % eadnotat PUBLIC "-//Society of American Archivists//DTD
eadnotat.ent (EAD Notation Declarations)//EN" "eadnotat.ent">
%eadnotat;
<!ENTITY yorkarc SYSTEM "yorkarc.xml">
<!ENTITY aplebaum253 SYSTEM "aplebaum253.xml">
<!ENTITY filelist1996-017.125 SYSTEM "filelist1996-017.125.xml">
<!ENTITY applebaum4 SYSTEM "applebaum4.gif" NDATA GIF>
]>
The error I'm getting from IE5 refers to the last external entity that I've
declared in the declaration subset. If I comment out this entity, the
document will display, but of course the gif file doesn't display. The
error I'm getting from IE5 reads as follows:
Declaration 'applebaum4' contains reference to undefined notation 'GIF'.
Line 17, Position 66
<ead>
Does anybody have any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely, Derrick Clements
