FLICC Meeting Announcement 99-29
Basic Serials Cataloging Workshop
Serials Cataloging Cooperative Training Program (SCCTP)
This three-day workshop is designed for those new to serials cataloging--be=
ginning serials catalogers and monograph catalogers. The Serials Cataloging=
Cooperative Training Program (SCCTP) is a cooperative program that =
provides standardized training materials and trained trainers in the field =
of serials cataloging. The vision of the Serials Cataloging Cooperative =
Training Program (SCCTP) is to increase the pool of knowledgeable serials =
catalogers and raise the quality of serials cataloging records contributed =
to shared databases. The Cooperative Online Serials (CONSER) Program, a =
component of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) coordinates the =
program. The North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG), American =
Library Association's Continuing Library Education Network and Exchange =
Round Table (CLENERT), and several OCLC networks have contributed to =
various aspects of the program.
Using structured training in the basic principles of serials cataloging =
(print and electronic serials, copy and original cataloging), the workshop =
spends the first two days focusing on elements in the CONSER core record, =
as well as problem-solving and decision making relative to serials =
cataloging. On the final day of the workshop, students will explore =
current practices and future opportunities for federal libraries engaged =
in cataloging and managing serials in automated library systems.
