This full-day, hands-on workshop enables users
to make more effective and efficient use of
Dewey for Windows. The workshop program uses
the same approach as the recently published
Dewey for Windows Guide, prepared by workshop
instructor and assistant Dewey editor,
Julianne Beall. Topics include
Overview of Dewey for Windows
Keyword searching
Index scanning
Using local notes
Building numbers: Tables 1 and 2
Building numbers: Life sciences,
Literature, and other fields Cuttering
Using LC Subject Authorities with Dewey
for Windows
Session notes:
Participants may request additional number
building coverage on the workshop registration
form. Your requests will be submitted in
advance to the instructor.
Prerequisites:
Familiarity with Dewey Decimal Classification
system and Windows-based applications.
Instructor:
Julianne Beall, Library of Congress
Ms. Beall has served as assistant editor for
Dewey Decimal Classification at the Decimal
Classification Division of the Library of
Congress since 1986. She has assisted in
revising the computer science, religion,
languages, and literature segments of the
classification. Ms. Beall worked closely with
the designers of Dewey for Windows during
development of the product and prepared the
Dewey for Windows Guide. She holds a MLS from
the University of California, Los Angeles.
