Network Bulletin No. 99-42
Date: September 10, 1999
Subject: Magazines
Index term: NLS resumes production of the __Writer; replaces
Working Woman__
Due to numerous patron requests as well as recommendations
from the National Advisory Group on Collection Building
Activities, NLS will resume production of the Writer
magazine beginning with the October 1999 issue. The Writer
will be produced in audio format on cassette and will
replace Working Woman magazine. Production of Working Woman
ceased with the September 1999 issue. The focus of Working
Woman has changed since it was selected, and it is no longer
appropriate for the NLS magazine program.
The CMLS code for the Writer will be WRT3. The CMLS
contractor will reinstate the December 1997 subscriber list
for the Writer, updating it to remove patrons no longer in
the database and to correct changes of address. An
announcement explaining the reinstatement of the Writer will
be included at the beginning of the first issue.
Subscribers to Working Woman will not automatically receive
the Writer. They will be notified of the change via a
large-print letter.
NLS appreciates the work of the Florida Bureau of Braille
and Talking Book Library Services in continuing to make the
Writer available to patrons during the last year and a half.
When NLS ceased production of this magazine, the Florida
regional library began to record it and made it available to
other libraries.
