Collection Services Office, Law Library Services Directorate, Law
Library of Congress, James Madison Memorial Building
Type of Appointment:
Temporary, not to exceed 120 days

Tour of Duty:
(1) Full-time (Tuesday through Saturday; 8:30am to 5:00pm fixed
schedule)
(2) Full-time (Monday through Friday; 9:30am to 6:00pm; except
Wednesday - 1:00pm to 9:30pm)
(3) Full-time (Monday through Friday; 9:00am to 5:30pm; except
Thursday - 1:00pm to 9:30pm)
(4) Part-time (Afternoons, Evenings and Saturdays)
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Incumbent is responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and shelving
of a given segment of the Library's Law Collections. Specific
responsibilities include; retrieving material for requestors, often
requiring verification of incomplete or inaccurate information,
substituting editions, and searching for material not readily
available; shelving and maintaining the collections, including minor
shifting, identification of cataloging and/or labeling errors, and
shelfreading. Incumbent will be required to produce large quantities
of accurate work on a continuing rapid basis in pressure situations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
Applicants must have at least 6 months of general clerical, library,
or other work which indicates the ability to file books,
correspondence or other documents; to follow guidelines and procedures
and to work with others.
Substitution of Education for Experience:
To substitute education for experience, applicants must have
completed at least one full year of education above high school, which
is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in a college or
university.
Test Requirement:
Applicants must pass the Library of Congress Clerical Test. A copy
of test results must be attached to the application. (Clerical test
may be waived for applicants with Bachelor's degree.)
