My first real experience of SF (literature) was after I had watched a
documentary about Philip K Dick on BBC2 (some time back now) which
contained Bladerunner. I wondered what the book was like and so went to
the library and got DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP which really
blew me away. Since then favourites of mine are Brian Aldiss (especially
Report on Probability A and An Age), Arthur C Clarke (Childhood's End is
my favourite here) and the wonderful Robert Silverberg (The Stochastic
Man is particularly good). My main love remains horror and in this field
the authors that have inspired me most have been Ramsey Campbell,
Stephen King (who despite popular opinion still has it; Rose Madder is
deeply moving), Graham Joyce and M.R. James.
Stay happy people
