Hi, folks:

We thought you might have particular interest in the new programs we're
offering...and that you might know others who would be interested.
Obviously, not everyone can hop a plane to Washington to attend one of these
workshops, but we've found a lot of educators do find their way to the
Library on vacations and other trips to the area. We successfully offered a
slate of these workshops during October and November --- there has been
significant interest from local districts. In addition, we can arrange
"private" workshops for groups on dates of their choosing.

So, please help us out by clipping and redistributing this announcement.
We'd be especially happy if this notice made it into the hands of district
or state level supervisors of Library/Media Services, Social Studies and
Instructional Technology. Of course, we think almost any educator would find
value and fun in American Memory! <grin>

Thanks for your help!

The Learning Center of the National Digital Library Program (NDLP) of the
Library of Congress is now offering a schedule of workshops to the educators
of the nation. These three hour workshops are presented in Washington, D.C.
in our 16 station classroom in the Madison Building of the Library. Two
different workshops are offered each day, providing a full day of
opportunities with this rich collection. Each workshop provides hands-on
instruction in the skills necessary to bring the material from the American
Memory collections into your classrooms. These workshops will be of
particular interest to librarians, media specialists, social studies
teachers and language arts teachers, though any educator working with
primary sources and Americana will find great value. All workshops are free
of charge.

· Working with primary source materials (Primary Sources)
· Designing instruction with online materials (All in the Design)
· Learning techniques of research in archival collections (Treasure Hunting)
· Reviewing existing lesson plans and resources (Learning Page)

You may learn more about these workshops and other professional development
opportunities being offered by the Library of Congress on the Web at
http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/ndlpedu/program.html . Along with the Winter
Workshop schedule, you will also find information about online instruction,
conferences and exhibitions where the NDLP will be appearing and notices
about the American Memory Fellows Institute. Of course, we encourage you to
visit the American Memory Historical Collections (http://memory.loc.gov) and
the Learning Page (http://learning.loc.gov/learn/).

Please feel free to forward and/or copy this message for distribution. For
more information, you may call (202) 707-4158 or e-mail us at
