Major Duties: Serves as a member of a team of librarians
in
the Langley
Research Center Technical Library in the Office of Chief
Information
Officer.
This specialized aerospace research library serves NASA Langley
Research
Center, its contractors, and other NASA installations. Supports
researchers in
aerodynamics and aerothermodynamics, structures and materials,
airborne
systems, atmospheric science, and systems analysis, and patrons
supporting and
managing these research activities. Provides a complete range
of
library
services (i.e., reference and search services, collection
development, on-line
access to information, etc.). As a Library team member,
contributes
in one or
more of the following library areas: collection development,
document
management, information access, reference, outreach, and
maintenance
and
administration. Strong skills are required in serials and
document
management
as well as library systems management. Serves as serials
librarian,
managing
the selection, acquisition, and organization of the Langley
serials
collection, which includes several hundred titles in hardcopy
and
electronic
form. Participates in document management, including
cataloging, of
Langley's
collection of 2 million legacy aerospace reports as well as
digital
libraries
providing access to several thousand electronic documents.
Leads
document
scanning projects to convert paper reports into digital form
for
on-line
access. As part of the operation of the digital libraries,
participates in the
management and operation of library computer systems, including
the
library
management computer system that supports all NASA libraries.
Performs Library
research in highly specialized technical disciplines and
participates in
library outreach program.
Qualifications Required:
Applicants must possess the type and quantity of education,
experience, or
equivalent combinations of both as described below.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of 1 full academic
year
of graduate
study in library science in an accredited college or
university, in
addition
to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree; OR
completion of
all the requirements for a 5th year bachelor's degree in
library
science and
at least 1 year of library experience that included the
performance
of duties
in one or more functional areas of librarianship.
SPECIALIZED REQUIREMENTS: In addition to meeting the basic
requirements,
applicants must possess 1 year of directly related specialized
experience
equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11).
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTIONS: Refer to OPM's
Qualifications
Standards Manual for General Schedule positions which is
available
in the
Personnel Management Branch, Office of Human Resources.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: To receive credit for education completed
outside the
U.S., you must show proof the education has been submitted to a
private
organization specializing in interpretation of foreign

education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in
conventional
U.S. education programs.
