 Description of Duties and Responsibilities:  Direct, plan and coordinate =
a biomedical research library program serving a staff of 150 including =
national and international research scientists, support and administrative =
staff; advise others in all phases of library operation and management; =
access and utilize biomedical databases and software; establish interlibrar=
y loan agreements with national and regional libraries, clinics, hospitals,=
 and universities; provide journal processing and book cataloging =
services. Works with multiple medical science reference systems both to =
forward reference materials to specific researchers in the laboratories =
and to assist in bringing scientific achievements of the scientists at the =
Rocky Mountain Laboratories to the attention of other research laboratories=
.     =09
Basic Qualification Requirements: Candidates must meet qualifications and =
time-in-grade requirements within 30 days from the closing date of this =
vacancy announcement. =09
Candidates for GS-11 must meet the requirements specified below:  A. =
Completion of a =FF5th year=FF bachelor=FFs degree in library science at =
an accredited college or university and specialized knowledge in medical =
sciences subjects (obtained by completing {1} 24 semester hours in medical =
science subjects OR {2} 15 semester hours in a declared medical science =
subjects major or {3} 4 years of pertinent experience in the medical =
sciences or {4} a combination of {1}, {2}, or {3} totaling 4 years). PLUS =
at least 1 year of library experience that included the performance of =
duties in one or more functional areas of librarianship (e.g., selection, =
acquisition, cataloging and classification of materials; reference and =
literature searching services; library management; or developing and =
strengthening library services) at the GS-5 level; AND ONE of the =
following:  1. 2 years of professional experience in librarianship. At =
least 1 year must be independently performing, supervising, or administerin=
g one or more functions in areas such as the selection, acquisition, =
cataloging and classification of materials; reference and literature =
searching services; library management; or developing and strengthening =
library services.  2. 2 years of professional experience in medical =
sciences (e.g., biology, microbiology, chemistry, genetics, etc.) that =
provided the applicant with the knowledge of biomedical research terminolog=
y.   3. Completion of all the requirements for a master=FFs degree or 2 =
full academic years of graduate study in medical sciences (e.g., biology, =
microbiology, chemistry, genetics, etc.) at an accredited college or =
university AND 1 year of professional experience in librarianship =
independently performing, supervising, or administering one or more =
functions in areas such as the selection, acquisition, cataloging and =
classification of materials; reference and literature searching services; =
library management; or developing and strengthening library services.  4. =
Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) =
or 3 full academic years of graduate education in medical sciences (e.g., =
biology, microbiology, chemistry, genetics, etc.). OR B. Completion of all =
the requirements for a master=FFs degree or 2 full academic years of =
graduate study in library science at an accredited college or university; =
AND ONE of the following:  1. 1 year of professional experience in =
librarianship independently performing, supervising, or administering one =
or more functions in areas such as the selection, acquisition, cataloging =
and classification of materials; reference and literature searching =
services; library management; or developing and strengthening library =
services.  2. 1 year of professional experience in medical sciences (e.g., =
biology, microbiology, chemistry,  genetics, etc.) that provided the =
applicant with the knowledge of biomedical research terminology. OR C. =
Completion of all the requirements for a doctoral degree (or equivalent) =
or 3 full academic years of graduate education in library science.  =
Candidates for GS-12 must meet the requirements specified below:   In =
addition to meeting the qualifications described at the GS-11 level, =
candidates must have one additional year of professional experience in =
librarianship modifying standard library practices, precedents, and =
techniques; adapting computer systems or departing from previous approaches=
, to solve a variety of information access; and resolving dissemination =
and preservation of resources issues.   =09

 Miscellaneous Position Information  This position is being advertised at =
multiple grade levels. Please indicate the grade or salary levels for =

completion of a one year probationary period.   This position has a full =
