I'll take a stab at this. How something would sound has a lot to do with
the density of the medium in which it's travelling. Stick your head
underwater and try to talk, not really possible even though sound moves in
the same ways. If a civilization develops on an earthlike planet, with an
earthlike atmosphere, then sounds will probably sound the same. This also
ignores the question "do their ears work the same way?" Just speculation.
