OCLC is pleased to announce that the new OCLC FirstSearch service is now ready for use by all FirstSearch libraries. You may move your FirstSearch users to the new service at any time from now through August 20, when access to the current versions of FirstSearch and OCLC FirstSearch Electronic Collections Online will end. The FirstSearch migration period will last for eight weeks, from June 26 through August 20. We encourage you to move your users to the new service during these weeks at the time that best suits your library's schedule. On August 20, access to the current versions of FirstSearch and Electronic Collections Online will be discontinued and users will be automatically directed to the new service when they log on to FirstSearch. Details about the new FirstSearch service, including new documentation and promotional materials, are on the FirstSearch Web site at < http://www.oclc.org/oclc/menu/fs_new.htm >. The "New Administrative Module Reference Guide" provides instructions for implementing the many new customization options available in the new version of the service. The Guide is available at < http://www.oclc.org/oclc/fs_new/admin_ref.htm >. If your library chooses to migrate to the new service before August 20, you may connect to FirstSearch with the URL < http://newfirstsearch.oclc.org >. Beginning on August 20, the URLs < http://newfirstsearch.oclc.org > and < http://firstsearch.oclc.org > will both take you into the new version of the service. The following alternative URLs may also be used: * Europe: < http://newfirstsearch.uk.oclc.org > or < http://firstsearch.uk.oclc.org > * Digital Island: < http://newfirstsearch.global.oclc.org > or < http://firstsearch.global.oclc.org > * Dedicated TCP/IP: < http://newfirstsearch.dedip.oclc.org > or < http://firstsearch.dedip.oclc.org > There are no plans to discontinue the URL < http://firstsearch.oclc.org > at this time. Please remember that port numbers such as ": 2000" are no longer needed in FirstSearch URLs to facilitate access to the service. The automatic direction of all FirstSearch and Electronic Collections Online users to the new service on August 20 will connect users of the current FirstSearch Web, the current FirstSearch text-only (TTY) and the Electronic Collections Online standalone interface to the new service. Because Electronic Collections Online access depends on a link between an existing Electronic Collections Online authorization and a FirstSearch authorization or authorizations, users of the current standalone service who attempt a manual logon will be directed to local library staff for assistance. If your library uses Z39.50 to access the FirstSearch service, you will need to update your implementation to use the new address for the service and accommodate enhancements to indexing and record display formats in the new service. Details about these changes are available in "The new FirstSearch via Z39.50 Configuration Guide" at < http://www.oclc.org/oclc/man/z39.50/new_fs_config_guide.htm > and in updated database specifications at < http://www.oclc.org/oclc/man/z39.50/database.htm >. Documentation about continued access to FirstSearch and Electronic Collections Online using automatic logon via WebScript or IP address recognition is available on the FirstSearch Web site at < http://www.oclc.org/oclc/fs_new/doc.htm >. WebScript versions 1.95 and 1.96 will not work with the new FirstSearch. OCLC recommends that users of these older versions of WebScript upgrade to the new WebScript version 2.00 that is available from the OCLC Web site at < http://purl.org/oclc/fs-ws >. Please contact your regional network, OCLC service center, international division or distributor, or OCLC User and Network Support (1-800-848-5800 or [log in to unmask]) with questions about the OCLC FirstSearch service during this migration period. ----------------------------------------------------------------- French Translation ----------------------------------------------------------------- FIRSTSEARCH, LE MOMENT EST VENU DE FAIRE LE SAUT !
