For those of you who are new to this listserv, “Welcome!” For American Memory Fellows and friends from previous years, “Welcome back!” All of us here at the Library of Congress hope you have had a wonderful summer–be it at work or at play–and know that most of you are busily preparing for the first day of school. We, too, think of fall as a new beginning–a time for both reflection and excitement as we share new developments with you. As many of you know, we use this listserv for announcements of a general nature relating to the American Memory collections and the American Memory Fellows Program. Betty Brown, one of our NDL reference librarians, will be posting announcements of new American Memory collections on this list from time to time. And, we have done a ton of new things on the Learning Page, many of which were completed just in time for this past summer’s AMF institute, so we will be “tooting” our horn on those things, too. You’ll hear from a number of other folks at the Library of Congress on this list as well as Betty. There is no particular protocol. It is one way of keeping in touch with you and helping you keep in touch with each other. Please use this list to share insights about working with primary sources with your colleagues who are now growing in number! Just added to this list are the year 2000 American Memory Fellows–all 50 of them–and 24 teachers and school media specialists from Western North Carolina who also spent a week with us this summer in Washington, DC. We are all looking forward to a great year!!!
