Network Bulletin No. 00-49 Date: August 25, 2000 Subject: Excess and redistribution program (XESS) Index Term: Steps for bagging XEXX books NLS requests your help with books being disposed of through the XESS process. Some libraries are taking the extra step, after bagging books and closing the metal bag closure, of knotting the drawstrings several times to ensure the bag does not come open. Someone is even braiding the drawstring. Both of these practices extend greatly the amount of time required to open the mailbags. Please request that your shipping/receiving staff refrain from knotting or braiding the drawstrings on mailbags of XESS books being sent to Landover, Maryland. Your assistance is appreciated.
