Apologies for the duplication; this information will also be posted to the PCC web site for future information ******************************************** We have been asked about the relationship between subject authorities and the Pinyin moratorium. Newly proposed subject headings i.e., new subject heading proposals, formulated according to the Pinyin romanization, can be submitted in the usual manner. The Cooperative Cataloging Team will hold these headings until September 1, 2000. Once approved (in early October), such headings can be used in newly created bibliographic records beginning October 1, 2000 (i.e., newly approved Pinyin headings cannot be used in any bibliographic record until October 1). Beginning July 5, 2000, existing subject headings that contain Chinese terms romanized according to Wade-Giles or other romanization schemes will be revised as a project on weekly lists between now and October. Because of complications in managing this project, staff are asked not to request changes to already existing subject headings until after the project is completed. posted for Kay Guiles, CPSO, by Ana Cristán
