Colleagues,

The PCC Standing Committee on Automation (SCA) has been busy. The
following new items are available from the SCA home page at:

http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/automation.html

1. Report of the SCA Task Group on Automated Classification. Led by Gary
Strawn, the committee suggests a coordinated strategy to establish
and implement automated support for classification and shelflisting. This
report has been accepted by the SCA and is under review by the PCC Policy
Committee.

2. Notes of the SCA Meeting at ALA Midwinter. Notes of the committee's
discussion on January 14 in Washington DC.

3. Charge and membership of a new SCA task group, on OCLC Batch
Processing. This group will advise OCLC on the PCC's requirements for
batch processing of Program records, as well as on batchloading in general,
in the context of the PCC's broad interest in fostering cooperative
cataloging.

Check them out! Comments are always welcome and may be addressed to any
member of the SCA. If you know of others who may be interested in these
documents, please feel free to forward them on.
