SURVEY OF COLLECTION-LEVEL DESCRIPTION ACTIVITY

Collection Description Focus, based at UKOLN, and CIMI, the consortium of
cultural heritage institutions, are collaborating in a survey of activity in
the area of collection-level description. Here, the term "collection" is
intended in a very general sense, to mean any aggregation of items, physical
or digital.

The aim of this survey is to enable us to understand the range of current
activity, the descriptive standards in use and the way those standards are
being deployed in practice, and to identify areas where further work is
required.

If your organisation or project is engaged in resource description at
collection-level, we would be very grateful if you would consider completing
our questionnaire, which is available at

http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/cd-focus/questionnaire/

both as an HTML form and as a Microsoft Word document.

The information may be used by CD Focus and/or CIMI as the basis of analyses
that appear in reports and publications, but references to individuals,
institutions or projects will not be made without permission. If you supply
contact details, CD Focus and/or CIMI may contact you to discuss your work
further.

We will summarise the results of the survey on the CD Focus website and will
notify this list when that summary is available.

Note: A small number of projects already completed a trial version of this
questionnaire in July/August, and those responses will automatically be
incorporated within this survey.

Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Pete Johnston
