See the message below from Bethany Young and Caren Benjamin with the new Partnership for Public Service. Pat Announcing the Partnership for Public Service http://www.ourpublicservice.org Greetings! We would like to introduce you to the Partnership for Public Service, a new, non-partisan, non-profit organization created to revitalize the image and the reality of the public service. Our mission is to encourage qualified men and women to choose federal service for some or all of their careers, and make it possible for government to retain its high-achieving federal employees. In the aftermath of the events on September 11, Americans got a rare chance to witness their federal government in action. These efficient and heroic efforts provided the public vivid examples of the kinds of services the federal government provides. Unfortunately, positive media images of federal workers are rare. Far more often, federal agencies are portrayed as impenetrable bureaucracies and federal workers as hapless drones. Given these images, it should come as no surprise that talented recent graduates and mid-career professionals are increasingly uninterested in federal service. As the Partnership's communications team, our job is to keep in the public's consciousness images that show government offers incomparable opportunities to develop skills and contribute to society. Here's where you come in. You are in the agencies, on the ground, among the workforce. You know who is going above and beyond the call of duty every day and who is trying out innovative new ideas on the job and in the world. In other words, you know the positive stories that are not getting told. We'd like you to share those positive stories with us, so we can help share them with your community and your country. (Please visit our website at <http://www.ourpublicservice.org> to see examples of the positive stories and agency activities we are currently highlighting.) If you have an agency newsletter, we'd like to receive it. If your co-worker did something that made you proud, we'd like to hear about it. If your most dedicated staffer gets an award, has a significant birthday or retires after many years of exemplary service, tell us. We'll do what we can to tell those stories to the media and to convince the media to tell those stories to America. Please feel free to forward any news items or communications suggestions via email to [log in to unmask] You can also fax us at (202) 775-8885 or send ideas via mail to: The Partnership for Public Service, Attn: Communications Department, 1725 Eye Street, NW, Suite 900, Washington, D.C.20006. Thank you for your time and attention. We look forward to working with you in the future!
